Ground-rules :

In order to maintain order on this page and facilitate meaningful discussion, we lay some ground rules down, at the outset.

  1. Please give your post a heading while typing into the comment field; you could use html tags <b> and </b> on either side of the title to distinguish it clearly.
  2. Please avoid SMS language/ grammar. This makes it hard to read and strikes the wrong note on a serious forum. Please stick to the basic rules of grammar while posting.
  3. Please.. do…. not type like… this….
  4. Please avoid using too many smileys. While a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, a misinterpreted smiley is worth a thousand misinterpreted words; too dangerous in our opinion!
  5. Please avoid swearing.
  6. Please stick to the thread while commenting.

  1. Angry resident

Recently there was a VERY loud celebration of Ganesha Chaturti near the living quarters. People who had nothing to do with IISc were there and I HATE IT! Guards should forbid any such celebrations. IISc is a science institute. They left garbage everywhere and were drunk. Guards should be STRICTLY notified to not allow this.

  2. I want to know the opinion of the students of its recently started ug BS programme from the students of this course

  3. Sir,I have opted admision through NEET UG. I Couldnt pay the application fee on may 7 due to some reasan. I am ready to pay it now. Please accept it sir.

  4. This is p.shivamadhuri from Andhrapradesh. recently i have applied to U.G programme at iisc by online . i made an error in the 12 standard subject list. actually my main subjects are botany ; zoology ; [i.e;biology] physics ; chemistry but not mathematics.i am studying intremediate board of Andhrapradesh. my national exam is AIPMT.i selected maths as a main subject in online application form due to lack of getting information. so please kindly ignore this error because i am working hard and alot to reach your institue. so please do not cancel my application form.please give reply as soon as possible

  5. Some of friends my friends and I were thinking that there should be a sci-tech-fest organized in this institute at least once a year. We are from the UG course and are very keen to hold such a fest as in other institutes of national importance. This is not to copy other institutes like IITs, but these fests shall, in my view, give a new dimension to the activities of IISc; highlighting its works and also its importance. Also with the same fests the undergraduates will be able to apply their knowledge to the fullest potential and develop the attitude and a stronger liking towards research. Moreover, we, the undergraduates can in this way come closer to the research wok and scientific practices that are being so well implemented in this institute by the PG, Ph.D students and post-docs. All in all it shall help generate a healthy research pool of India.

Please not that this fest shall in no way be restricted to UG students but shall take in for its inputs a multitude of students from different courses.

  6. Why is there no RWH facilities in IISc? Some initiative has to be taken by the SC to spread awareness amongst the student community in this regard.

Also an error with regard to one of the posts seems to have inadvertently occurred while referring to the UG programme of IISc.It’s BS course not BSc. Hope the error would be rectified.

    Dear Voices,
TASTES-The voices Food Special is really good newsletter among the recent one.
Hats off to the Voices Team.
I have a request from my side that there should be a newsletter covering awareness about the use of water and electricity. As i see(especially in new hostel block)many of them are wasting water(rather using as much needed)in the form of loosely closing the tap and etc.On the other side they are aware to switch ON the lights and exhaust fan but lazy to switch OFF.So hope you understand the necessity of these essentials as we all recent faced the situation of power cut for two to three days.So its my humble request to Voices and i will look forward for it in the upcoming newsletters.
    Thank you.

  10. I happen to be one of the “fortunate” IISc students who are lucky enough to get a room in the E-block hostel. There are times when I struggle to wash my hands after using the toilet in any of the bathrooms there. On
many a Sunday morning , as I make my way to the Department (Mechanical Engineering), I pass by Prakruti, as I ususlly do. On every Sunday I see them washing their vehicles (cars, scooters, even load carriers !!) on the road adjacent to their premises. This made me wonder if we could hand over the management of the E-block to hostel to the Prakruiti guys. This, I am sure, would ensure a regular water supply in the E-block bathrooms.

To sum up my state of mind, I think this particular couplet is apt:

    “Pani ki baat kartay ho, dil jalanay ki baat kartay ho;
Ham ne chahey (read 6) din se moonnh (face) nahin doya, tum nahaney ki
    baat karte ho.”

    Babar ahmad (Phd Student)

Ps: I have nothing against Prakruti as such. In fact, it is a boon for people like me who have most of their meals there.
